It is remarkable how God loves us. I mean, what have we done to be able to enjoy the blessings we have? Nothing. Life is not easy, but even in the trials, He gently leads us and nurtures us. As I write this, I am remembering some of the crazy ways that God has shown me how near he has been this past year. Of course He has met me through times of prayer and reading the Bible. But I have also experience His presence in the most unexpected and mundane moments. It has been through reading a novel. It has been while talking in my friend's living room. It has been in the car, in the bathtub, in my garden. Even Craigslist. Some of my most beautiful moments with the Lord have happened at the most unusual times.
Where do the blessings come from? What elevates them above the status of earthly posessions and temporary feel-good moments? I think it all comes back to our generous God. It was His love that moved him to send us a Savior. Our Jesus came into a broken and hurting world, to become broken with us and for us.
The wild thing about this is that He does not need us. And, while that is really humbling, it is actually a key to understanding the wonder of it all. It means that He simply wants to give us all of the fullness of Himself, just because He loves us. He wants us to see how crazy good he is and how much we need him. And he has endless ways to show us that.
"Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen."
Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
